New patient forms are available online on our Online Forms page so you can save time at your appointment.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

For your first visit to Freedom Eye Care, please bring your current glasses and/or contact lenses, a list of any medications you are taking (including supplements), your insurance card, a valid photo ID, and any relevant medical history related to your eyes or systemic health. If you have records from a previous eye care provider, those are helpful but not required. Completing your new patient forms online ahead of time will help your appointment run smoothly.

What vision insurance plans do you accept?

Freedom Eye Care accepts a range of vision and medical insurance plans. For detailed and up-to-date insurance information, visit our insurance page or call our office at (512) 916-4600 before your visit. We also offer flexible payment options for patients with out-of-pocket costs or without vision insurance.

How often should I have my eyes examined?

For healthy adults with no known eye conditions, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam every two years. Patients with diabetes, glaucoma, a history of eye disease, or other risk factors should be seen annually. Children should follow a schedule of exams at 6–12 months, age 3, before starting school, and annually throughout their school years. When in doubt, call Freedom Eye Care at (512) 916-4600 and we will help you determine the right schedule for your needs.

What is a comprehensive eye exam and what does it include?

A comprehensive eye exam at Freedom Eye Care evaluates both your vision and the health of your eyes. It includes visual acuity testing, refraction to determine your glasses or contact lens prescription, eye pressure measurement, evaluation of the internal and external eye structures, retinal imaging, and screening for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Our exams are thorough, efficient, and personalized to your health history and risk factors.

Do you offer pediatric eye exams?

Yes. Freedom Eye Care provides comprehensive pediatric eye exams for patients of all ages, including infants and toddlers. Early vision screening is critical for healthy visual development and academic readiness. We use child-friendly techniques adapted to each age group and create a welcoming, low-stress environment for young patients. We also fit children for glasses and offer myopia management for children with progressing nearsightedness.

Do you treat dry eye?

Yes. Freedom Eye Care diagnoses and manages dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction with customized treatment plans. We use diagnostic tools to identify the specific cause of your dry eye and offer treatments ranging from prescription drops and in-office meibomian gland expression to omega-3 supplementation and specialty contact lenses for patients with severe dryness. If you are experiencing chronic dryness, burning, or fluctuating vision, schedule a dry eye evaluation with our team.

What is diabetic retinopathy and should I be screened for it?

Diabetic retinopathy is damage to the blood vessels in the retina caused by prolonged elevated blood sugar. It is a leading cause of vision loss in adults but is largely preventable with early detection and consistent monitoring. All patients with Type 1, Type 2, or gestational diabetes should have an annual diabetic eye exam at Freedom Eye Care. Many patients have no symptoms in the early stages, making regular screenings essential.

Do you screen for glaucoma?

Yes. Glaucoma screening is a standard part of every comprehensive eye exam at Freedom Eye Care. We measure intraocular pressure, evaluate the optic nerve, perform visual field testing, and use OCT imaging to monitor the nerve fiber layer. Patients at higher risk — including those with a family history of glaucoma, elevated eye pressure, or diabetes — receive our dedicated glaucoma monitoring and management services to protect their long-term vision.

Can I order my contact lenses through Freedom Eye Care?

Yes! If you are an established patient of Freedom Eye Care with a current contact lens prescription on file, you can order your contact lenses online through our online ordering portal and track your order status at any time. Contact lens prescriptions are valid for one year and require an up-to-date contact lens exam and fitting to renew.

Do you monitor patients on medications that can affect the eyes?

Yes. Freedom Eye Care provides medication-related eye exams for patients taking drugs with known ocular side effects, such as hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil), corticosteroids, tamoxifen, amiodarone, and ethambutol. These specialized exams use advanced imaging to detect early retinal or optic nerve changes before vision loss occurs, and our team coordinates findings with your prescribing physician as needed.

What payment options do you offer?

Freedom Eye Care accepts a variety of payment methods including major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and cash. We also work with multiple insurance plans and can help you understand your vision and medical benefits before your appointment. For patients with costs not fully covered by insurance, we offer flexible payment options — visit our payment options page for more information or call us at (512) 916-4600.
